Just buy it and solve your watch problem for the next 20 years
My G Shock finally died. I bought it in SOI in the Marines in 1998. It was cheap, you could see the time in the dark, and it had an alarm. This was all the functions I ever used during my 15 years in the infantry. I had to change the battery twice in 20 years. I also replaced the band in 2005. My G shock survived brutal training, a billion field ops, and two tours to Afghanistan and Iraq each. It went to the deserts of Africa to the snows of Alaska. It went to the jungles of Thailand to Death Valley. It's was dunked in every ocean on earth except the arctic ocean, along with most of the great lakes. My old rottwieler chewed on it, as did my two dobermans. I never take took it off.

Just like my original 1980 Casio Water Sports
n 1980 I bought my first Casio watch, a Water Sports model with a stainless steel screw back case made in Japan for $100, which is $300 in today's inflated dollars. I still have it today and love its simple no nonsense clear display with just the necessary information. This new G-SHOCK watch is the same basic watch with a much improved EL backlight and an auto calendar that sets the day of the week based on the date and can display February 29 in leap years. Although the base G-SHOCK is now made in China, it still has that nice Casio quality that is present in the original, but at a much lower price. I picked it up 10 days ago when Amazon had it on sale for just $35.39

Great Watch !
I just received this watch today. It is a gift for my 11 year old Grandson. I am thrilled with the quality of this . You can buy a square Casio for as low as around $10.00, but they are other versions and not G-shocks. I am sure they are all good value for the money. I just wanted him to have a G-shock !! I've just become interested in these square G-shocks a few weeks ago. Kind of a nostalgia type thing. I saw these around when I was in my late teens and '20's, but never owned one until now. I just spent some major $$ here on Amazon for a GW-5000-1JF and another with the negative display model GW-5510-1BJF. MY POINT BEING ::: You don't have to blow your income tax refund like I just did and get the solar/atomic bells & whistles ones.. This $46.00 G-shock is a great ,quality, nice looking watch!! From a foot away you cannot tell the difference between this watch and the much, much more expensive GW-5000. You'll change a battery every few years but they are an easy job.

Great watch!
wore a similar watch for many years in the late 80s and early 90s. I was a police officer and needed a durable, reliable watch to wear on patrol. This watch fit the bill and never failed me. When I went on to be a detective, I started wearing more dressy watches and my watch went to who knows where.

When I saw my old watch being offered, I had to have it, even though I own dozens of watches (I collect them). This watch is the same as my old warhorse and appears to be just as rugged and reliable. I glad to have it again.

Very durable watch
bought the exact same watch about 30 years ago and used it daily until the outer case finally cracked and broke. I was so happy to see that the same watch was still available after all those years. Proves that it's a great product--very durable, stylish for a sports watch, and very functional. Has an alarm, calendar, back light, stop watch function, 24 hour function, and a very soft, flexible but rugged band. Of course, I had to replace the band a few times in the 30 years I owned the first watch, but it's an inexpensive fix. I won't be around in another 30 years, but I'll bet the watch will still be going strong. It's a great buy.

keeping great time, but time to get a new one
have had an earlier version of this Casio G=Shock watch for twenty years which had a chip out where the pin for the band goes. As this was my everyday watch, I was always banging it up in the shop, doing things around the house, etc; I finely caught it on something in the truck & made the band pin hole even bigger so it would not hold at all. The Watch itself is still going strong, keeping great time, but time to get a new one. On this new version, they have attached the band with what looks like screws, so will have to see how it holds up over the next twenty years. (I am an Octogenarian so it will outlast me) I also have a higher priced SS solar powered G-Shock for dress up, which is still going strong. Very happy with these two Casio watches.
